Our first meeting will be a collaboration with PSCA, PDE and neighboring counties. School Counselor Symposiums 2018 : Are our Students Future Ready? 21st Century School Counselor: Addressing the Academic, Career and Social/Emotional, Needs of Our Learners
The Pennsylvania Department of Education along with the Pennsylvania School Counselors Association and the Pennsylvania Reach Higher Consortium are excited to be co-hosting the inaugural School Counselor Symposiums 2018!
The symposiums afford school counselors opportunities to hear from leaders at the Pennsylvania Department of Education as well as content experts in areas pertinent to school counselors and school counseling programs. Either Deputy Secretary for Basic Education Matt Stem or Deputy Secretary for Postsecondary and Higher Education Noe Ortega plan to be in attendance. The presentations will address information and resources to support school counselors in their key roles in the implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act. Ample time during the presentations will be allocated for a "town hall" style question and answer session.
Focus of this symposium will include but not be limited to:
- Role of the 21st Century School Counselor
- The current "state" of postsecondary participation and completion in the Commonwealth.
- K-12 College and Career programming.
- Implementation of "Future Ready" programs.
- Social/Emotional Learning: PA Career Ready Skills
Nov. 2, Community College of Allegheny County (held at Boyce Campus)
As soon as the agendas are finalized, they will be posted on the PSCA website & here on this page, as well.
PSCA is very pleased to be part of the planning and implementation of the FIRST PA School Counselor Symposiums. Don't miss this opportunity to be part of what we hope will become an annual offering. SEIZE THE MOMENTUM!
